State the question you need answered
A customer request, a new application launch and an internal review can lead to different assessment needs. Explain the reason for the work and who will use the findings. This helps the assessment team discuss suitable boundaries without assuming every asset needs the same review.
Identify owners and operating constraints
List the assets you believe are in scope and the people who can authorize work on them. Highlight third-party dependencies, restricted testing periods and systems with special availability requirements. Testing permissions and methods must be agreed before activity begins.
Plan for the work after the report
Decide who will review findings, approve remediation and request clarification. Ask what evidence and retesting are included in the engagement. A report is more useful when each agreed follow-up has an owner and a place in the team's existing work process.
